University of Florida Military Training Certificate Signed by General James Alward Van Fleet 1930

Hidden amongst some old vintage GI JOE manuals and posters we found this cool piece of history today! A Military Training Certificate of the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) from the University of Florida dated 1930 and signed by then Major, Infantry, (DOL), Professor of Military Science and Tactics, and University Football Coach “James Alward Van Fleet.” James Van Fleet would eventually go on to become General of the United States Army in 1951 during the Korean War and was regarded by President Truman as “America’s Greatest General.” We have not come across any info on the recipient, “Allen William Spencer” but would be appreciative of information any of you might have on him, or this particular piece in general. Cool find 🧐! What do you think?

The Lego Batman Movie Series 2 Minifigures Complete Identification Guide

We find it easier when the Lego Minifigures names are associated with their pictures. We've manually inserted them in white lettering above each one of their heads. We hope you find this as helpful as we do! Check it out!

Custom Lego ® “Christmas Morning” Holiday MOC Set

Custom Lego ® “Christmas Morning” Holiday MOC Set

Ho Ho Ho!

This 2017 Holiday Season we decided to dip our imagination into the one magical morning that heartfelt memories are made of, "Christmas Morning." This MOC (my own creation) was inspired simply by our love for the season and for all the rug rats that stay up many a Christmas Eve night in hopes of hearing that clatter on the roof and getting a glimpse at Jolly ole' Saint Nick!

Growing up, "D" batteries were a necessity. Had to have em'! Why? Well they lit up my flashlight of course! Santa had just dropped off his sack of toys and there I was, rummaging around the tree, checking tags, cookie crumbs, and milk levels. The time had to be close to 12 on 2 and my impatience was building. Why was my Brother still sleeping? Why was my Sister still sleeping? The snoring coming from my Parents bedroom confirmed the same on their end. But why??? Santa had come! Who knew what he had in store for us?! Was I the only one who understood the importance of the situation? Apparently so! Fast forward a few hours and there we all were gathered around the tree. Mom had the camera and Kodak film in hand, Pops played Santa, and we kids basked in the spirit, smell, and music that surrounded us. Present by present was shredded into, enjoyed, and admired. It was finally Christmas morning and it felt wonderful! But as the saying goes, all good things and moments must come to an end. For what had felt like forever to get there, had passed in a blink of an eye. But what still remains to this day, are the wonderful memories of the dancing Mr. & Mrs. Claus, the super fast remote control car, and how cold I remember feeling going outside to unplug the lights. All of these memories flow back to love down a long river of joy and happiness with family and friends.

For us, this time of year represents all that is good. We hope you enjoy our Lego rendition of  what "Christmas Morning" was for us. We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season!

Custom Lego® Halloween Trick Or Treat House MOC

Custom Lego® Halloween Trick Or Treat House MOC

BOO!!

Thanks for stopping by to check out our most recent Custom Lego® MOC (my own creation), The Halloween “Trick or Treat House!” Inspired by our love for the season and “spooktacular” ghouls and goblins who always come a knocking at our doorsteps on Halloween night.

The "Trick or Treat House" represents an endless number of suburban homes that always find themselves decorated year after year by the true spooky at heart. Webs of spiders, carved Pumpkins, Skeletons, and Candy draw in young Aliens, Princesses, and Rocket Men to the sidewalks of our streets, to ring our doorbells, and to shout out the age old question, "Trick or Treat?!" Something about those three words makes us want to throw the finest of chocolates and candies into the buckets, pillowcases, and baskets of the young Ghosts who have always ruled the true spirit of Halloween.

We hope you enjoy the subtle, yet spooky details of the MOC that we thought would help portray the image of how we have always remembered Halloween night to be! Happy Halloween everyone!

VINTAGE GI JOE COLLECTING: HOW TO IDENTIFY THE YEAR YOUR GI JOE WAS MADE

VINTAGE GI JOE COLLECTING: HOW TO IDENTIFY THE YEAR YOUR GI JOE WAS MADE

On June 15, 1964, The Hasbro Toy Company (Hassenfeld Bros Inc.) filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to claim their rights to a then, revolutionary action figure described to have twenty-one movable parts. After much success, this action figure came to be widely known as, "G.I. JOE" "America's Movable Fighting Man."

Throughout the process of finalizing Patent US3277602, which came on October 11, 1966, G.I. JOE had five different distinctive figure markings. Depending on the year in which a particular G.I. JOE ran off Hasbro's production line, the markings, which were stamped on the right buttocks of the figure, read differently. This has allowed collectors to gauge the year in which each figure was made, despite the fact that every G.I. JOE was imprinted with the year "1964."

Now lets get down to business! The buttocks identification markings corresponding with the specific production year/years for the vintage G.I. JOE figure are shown below.

1964-1965: TM/R Patent Pending

1966: R/R Patent Pending

1967-1975: R/R with Patent Number

1965-1969: Canada Markings

Early Canada Marking

Later Canada Marking

The above markings are meant to be used as a rule of thumb for identifying the year in which your G.I. JOE was made. Now being able to correctly identify the year of your Joe is one thing, but being able to identify how early/late in that specific year your figure was made, takes more time and experience. We will dive into that specific topic in another post.

Please feel free to comment in the section below if you should have any questions or ideas related to the topic at hand. We are always willing to help fellow collectors find their way in the collecting world! Until next time...Yo Joe!
